There are several forms of laser therapy. Unlike the high intensity medical lasers used in corrective vision and other surgical procedures to cut tissue (or help coagulate), LILT involves the use of safe medical “low intensity” or “cold” lasers that operate at much lower intensities to heal tissue.
LILT uses specific wavelengths of light that get absorbed into the tissue. This initiates a number of positive physiological responses that promote the healing process in the body at the cellular level. The BioFlex System, a form of LILT which has combined the results of numerous sophisticated engineering advances in light therapy, is the form of LILT used here at Performance Laser.
How LILT stimulates tissue repair
• Promotes the synthesis of collagen (one of the key building blocks of muscle,
ligaments and tendons)
• Activates other important cells (e.g. keratinocytes, endothelial cells,…)
• Generates new blood vessels (angiogenesis)
• Improves transport of nutrients into the cell (e.g. calcium and potassium)
• Stimulates adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production which is responsible for the
energy of the cell
For injuries, the healing process is accelerated by shortening the inflammatory phase. This results in decreased pain and more rapid formation of tissue repair. |
